The Women Rule The Barbell in ZONE 360 Boot Camp

It doesn’t happen often, but the other night we ended up with an all-female boot camp training session at Ultimate Fit Zone in Monmouth County.  The women ruled the barbells, tackling push presses and high pulls in between core strength training at the TRX straps.

Outdoor Boot Camp Fun!

When the weather gets warmer in Monmouth County, it’s the perfect opportunity to work on our running skills.   Running improves our cardiovascular endurance, which is necessary in all facets of life- especially in cross training.

Improving our cardio and stamina helps us perform better not only in the gym but in many areas of life. How often do you hear parents saying that their kids run them ragged? Or that people want to lose weight so they can play with their children and grandchildren.

Tips to Improve Your Box Jump

Boot Camp Training in Monmouth County – Box Jumps

The box jump is a staple exercise in our cross training boot camp.  In any given week, you’ll find them in a number of our boot camp training sessions.  Box jumps are a great cardiovascular workout, they help increase your explosive power and can improve certain olympic lifts.

Even though the idea of a box jump may sound simple – jumping from the floor to the top of the box, just like any exercise, your form is key in mastering this move.

Below are a few tips for performing this exercise with the proper form.

1) Don’t stand too far from the box- you will end up sacrificing height for distance (i.e. box bite)

2) Keep feet close together, about hip width apart or less

3) Keep your head, neck and back in a straight line- don’t look down. use your eyes, not your head, to confirm your target

4) To gain momentum, dip into a half squat and use your arms to propel you up

5) When it comes to the landing- you don’t want to ‘stick it’. You should try to land as soft as possible

6) Never land in a full squat- that will put pressure on your knees and spine

7) Upon landing- stand up to a full flexion of the hip- that is how to complete the jump

TRX Plus Boot Camp = T360

A few shots from tonight’s T360 training.  T360 combines TRX suspension training with our popular ZONE 360 cross training boot camp.  Tonight we did alternated between the TRX straps and the turf, completing times rounds of upper body and core exercises on the straps with barbell, dumbbell, and kettle bell work on the turf.

We did TRX ‘Ws’, ‘shoot the arrow’, ‘v-ups’, and ‘super mans’ and in between hit the turf for deadlifts, renegade rows, sit-up-to-stand box jumps, and kettle bell swings.

If you’ve ever done CrossFit, you’ll be familiar with a lot of these exercises.  Adding in gravity training on the TRX trains your muscles in a whole new way, and really activates the core.

Wayne masters the box jump!

We’ve said it time and time again, Zone 360 boot camp, as challenging as it is, is scalable for all ages, all fitness levels.  Someone who proves that day in and day out is UFZ member Wayne Russin.  He comes to UFZ several times a week, participating in many of the different programs we offer including Zone 360 boot camp and HEAT group fitness.  Wayne is over 60 and look at him fly high during a box jump.  When he first joined UFZ he could not box jump. He started by stepping up onto the box, then he progressed to jumping onto a smaller box, until he worked his way up to a full box jump on a standard box.  It’s pretty incredible what the body can achieve when the mind believes.  Wayne believes, and to achieve, he puts his energy into becoming a better athlete.

With support from his Zone coaches and fellow Zone members, Wayne has been able to accomplish athletic feats that he never even dreamed of when he was younger.  You can either use your age as a limitation, or use it as an excuse to work even harder, to prove to yourself and everyone else that you will NOT be held back.  At UFZ, the only limitations that exist are the ones you put on yourself.

Edward Albert, Co-Founder of Ultimate Fit Zone and Zone 360 boot camp coach, was selected by First Class Educators to lead the morning fitness component of the 2013 Automotive Boot Camp in PA.  Attendees of the popular automotive conference will kick start each morning with a custom boot camp workout designed by Edward.  The fitness portion of the event is sponsored by Higher Gear.

Carrie Hemphill, Managing Director, First Class Educators is quoted, “In order to take full advantage of the abundance of information being shared at the boot camp, dealer professionals will need to come energized and in their best state of mind.  The morning fitness component of our conference is designed to do just that.”
